DMX is said to be in “serious condition” following a recent drug overdose.
Saturday (April 3), TMZ reported that the legendary Yonkers, NY rapper is in hospital with a dire prognosis after overdosing and having a heart attack at his home last night (April 2) at around 11 p.m. . Sources say the rapper may be “brain dead” or “vegetative”.
The hip-hop community sends greetings for X on social media, including artists like Rick Ross, TI, Joell Ortiz and more.
XXL contacted the DMX label to comment on the situation.
X, born Earl Simmons, struggled with drug use throughout his adult life and spoke openly about it in his music since the start of his career. The hired rap veteran had apparently done better and be even more in touch with his spiritual roots in recent years. Before the pandemic, he was on semi-regular tours.
Following a one year in prison on charges of tax evasion in 2018, X signed a new deal with Def Jam in September 2019, reuniting the label with which he had initially signed his first major deal with a label in 1998. The following month, in October 2019, the 50-year-old rapper entered drug addiction treatment program. Last August he revealed he had been working on his first album for years with the help of frequent collaborator Swizz Beatz. The LP would be his first album since 2015 Redemption of the beast.
