A GATEWAY TO NEW MUSIC

Eminem ‘Lose Yourself’ – XXL Lyrics

MusicGateway

Eminem has a GOAT level CV that includes two diamond albums, but his biggest singular mainstream achievement may be his hit single “You lose.”

Released in October 2002, off the 8 miles soundtrack, the motivational song produced by Em, Luis Resto and Jeff Bass became Shady’s # 1 debut single. He remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks. The track went on to win an Oscar for Best Original Song, becoming the first hip-hop song to do so. He also won Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song and Best Solo Rap Performance in 2003. He got diamond certification in February 2018. Almost 20 years later, “Lose Yourself” is Em’s biggest single to date, and that says a lot.

INTRO
See if you had a chance or a chance
To grab everything you ever wanted in an instant
Would you like to capture it or just let it slip away? Yo

PAY ONE
His palms are sweaty, his knees weak, his arms heavy
There is already vomit on her sweater, mom’s spaghetti
He’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
Drop bombs, but he always forgets
What he wrote, the whole crowd is so strong
He opens his mouth, but the words won’t come out
He is choking, how? Everyone is joking now
The clock has run out, time is up, gone – blaow!
Come back to reality, ope there goes gravity, ope
There goes Rabbit, he choked, he’s so crazy but he won’t
Give up so easy, no he won’t get it, he knows
His whole back is on these ropes, no matter he’s dope
He knows it but he’s broke, he’s so stagnant, he knows
When he returns to this mobile home, that’s when
Back in the lab yo, that old rap shit, he
Better go capture this moment and hope it doesn’t pass, and

CHORUS
You better get lost in the music
The moment you own it, you better never let it go (Come on!)
You only get one hit, don’t miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo
You better get lost in the music
The moment you own it, you better never let it go (Come on!)
You only have one shot, don’t miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo
You’d do better …

PINS TWO
Her soul escapes through this gaping hole
This world is mine, make me king
As we move towards a new world order
Normal life is boring; but superstardom
Close to the autopsy, it’s only growing
Homie gets hotter and hotter, he blows, it’s over
These bitches are all on him, shows coast to coast
It is known as the Globetrotter, lonely roads
God only knows he has moved away from home, he is not a father
He comes home and barely knows his own daughter
But keep your nose, because here is the cold water
These bitches don’t want him he’s a cold commodity
They moved on to the next sinking schmoe
He took a nosedive and sold nada, and therefore the soap opera
We say it’s going, I guess it’s old, partner
But the rhythm continues: da-da-dom, da-dom, dah-dah, dah-dah

CHORUS
You better get lost in the music
The moment you own it, you better never let it go (Come on!)
You only get one hit, don’t miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo
You better get lost in the music
The moment you own it, you better never let it go (Come on!)
You only get one hit, don’t miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo
You’d do better …

VERSE THREE
No more games, I’ll change what you call rage
Rip up that fucking roof like two dogs in a cage
I was playing at the start, the mood changed everything
I’ve been chewed up and spat and booed off the stage
But I kept the beat and went straight into the next number
Better believe somebody pay the piper
All the pain inside amplified by the
The fact that I can’t get by with my nine hours
Five and I can’t afford the right kind of life for my family
‘Cause man these fuckin’ food stamps don’t buy diapers
And there is no movie, there is no Mekhi Phifer, this is my life
And these times are so hard, and it gets harder
Trying to feed and water my seed, no more swing
Caught between being a father and a prima donna
Baby mama drama, screaming at her, too much for me to want
Stay in one place, another monotonous day
Brought me to the point that I’m like a snail, I have
To formulate a plot or end up in jail or shootout
Success is my only fucking option – failure is not
Mom, I love you, but this trailer has
To go; I can’t grow old in Lot de Salem
So here I am, it’s my shot: my feet, don’t miss me
This might be the only opportunity I have
