Flo Milli’s 2021 XXL Freshman Freestyle

A rapper from Mobile, Ala. did not appear on a XXL First-year student coverage since the very first Freshman issue in 2007. At the time, Rich boy, known for his hit “Throw Some D’s”, was the first native of Mobile to make the cover alongside Saigon, Folds, Lupe Fiasco, Boosie BadAzz, Gorilla Zoe, Joëll Ortiz, twisted i, Papua and Young Funny. This year the 2021 XXL First-year student Flo milli is the city’s second rapper and the first woman to be inducted into the coveted list of artists.

“I remember Rich Boy, he was the first in our town to be on XXL, that was awhile ago, “shares the aspiring RCA Records superstar.” So, you know, even seeing it, it was like, shit, now I’m the first woman on it. So it’s very like, it’s a humbling experience and I think it’s a big step. “

While poised, Flo also offers an abundance of fearlessness and self-confidence in her rhymes. Flo is talented and she knows it, but the 21-year-old rapper doesn’t take her job lightly. She started to grab attention and turn heads in the hip-hop space in 2018, after reusing the beat of Playboi Carti’s “Beef”, produced by Ethereal, and making it her own. She calls it “Beef FloMix”, which she didn’t expect to transcend into the rap stratosphere like she did, but Flo embraced the response she received. The track now has over 80 million Spotify streams and over 13 million YouTube views.

The booming rhymer’s music is interwoven with positive affirmations, many cheeky and lyrical tools for empowerment, especially heard in her feature film for Yung Baby Tate’s “I Am”. It’s a position that Flo has taken on many of her loose singles as well as her first mixtape of 2020, Ho, why are you here?. Its cadence is sharper than its counterparts; his pen play is fierce and shameless. The reverence she has for her rap predecessors – Lil ‘Kim, Nicki Minaj, Eve, Diamond of Crime Mob, Missy Elliott, and MC Lyte – might have something to do with it.

“Nicki has proven that you can do this for a long time, you can be on top for a long time and, you know, not fall,” she said of Nicki Minaj’s influence in XXLthe Spring 2021 issue of. “You could persevere and make history as a black woman.” Something that Flo aims to do in her own career.

Flo milli is fearless and courageous, which oozes through its rhymes. She brings this exact vitality to her 2021 XXL First year freestyle.

“How could a broke boy play me? / You didn’t do shit, God made me / I’m a Bugatti and she a Mercedes / Money so long it goes back to the 80s / I’m in the top ’cause your bitches are lazy / Beef with a bitch? / I don’t make them famous / I don’t see you on any of these playlists / You can see I don’t care and you hate it / He says he’s real, but I know he’s faking it, “she sinks – no pun intended.

Flo crowns her freestyle with some sexually charged lines. “Take out the steel, my shooters aim / Up in the hills, gated community,” she says. “Throw on this ice cream, always climb on me naked / This pussy a milli ‘and he wants to taste it / Come with a billi’, I could let you take it / Make love on a jet / Fuck on a check / We makein ‘movies when we have sex. “
