Coi Leray knew she was destined for greatness. The final months of 2021 solidified this train of thought. The North Jersey and Boston artist, who dives into both his rap and vocals bag, got his first platinum track with “No More Parties” this year. Although the song finds Coi moving away from the festive life, she is always there to celebrate the many victories that she continues to accumulate, in particular by being a 2021 XXL First-year student. The highest honor, which she dubbed “a stamp of appreciation” must have gone to Coi for continuing to elevate himself. She’s come a long way since she rode the big drop on 2018’s “Huddy”.
“When I first got the call, I already knew I was going to be a freshman,” says the Republic Records signer. “I worked, for real, for real. I went platinum in less than three months, my numbers are crazy. We have passed million views on YouTube alone, which matches the ‘No More Parties’ video. “
While she’s been included as a running artist for the last two freshman classes, the 24-year-old knows the time is right. “And on top of what I gave up, I jumped on remixes like ‘Attachments’ by Pressa, from Canada, which goes crazy; ‘Impatient’ by DDG, which we just released a video, which becomes crazy “, said Coi, including the first album, IOC, is coming this summer. “There are so many more people I’ve worked with and just everything I’ve done. I knew it was going to happen. I was destined for greatness. It was only a matter of time. Timing is everything, do you know? ” She has verifiable evidence of success on the hip-hop clock.
But Coi knows better than anyone that the road to this level of glory comes with its share of headaches. “It took a long time, through trials and tribulations to get here,” she admits. “It’s a lot of blood and sweat and tears I can tell you. God is good. It’s a blessing to be here and without my team I wouldn’t even be able to be here. It takes a really strong team to really build a brand. I’m more than an artist, I’m a brand. ” The one she hopes will be eternal.
Coi, who is one of the four women on the XXL This year’s Freshman cover starring Flo Milli, Rubi Rose and Lakeyah, is the artist with a vitality and dynamic energy that shines through every song, in every video, and throughout her social media presence. She brings these qualities, with a lot of melody, to her freestyle Freshman.
The rising star stays true to her issues of trust, family and pain in her lyrics. “I won’t go out until I have a few Mmes sitting in my bank account / And my family depends on me, I’m the one who’s gonna get through it / I’m so paranoid, I think everyone world is gonna get me out / i think everybody is going to get me now / that’s why i’m crazy about this henny now / yeah i numb the pain i don’t feel it now / and i got i them got so mad because I win now / Yeah, the glock on my waist, I could air it out / Put it in my purse, I don’t wear it / Make sure the bag fits my shoes, they Maison Margiela, my chains, I’m going to wear them out, ”she recalls.
Before she curls her last bars, she changes pace and shows love to her favorite jeweler: “I fell in love with that money, yeah I’m counting it in my sleep / Avianne that water, yeah, he got it of the sea. “
