lil loaded died Monday, May 31 at the age of 20.
Rhyme lawyer Ashkan Mehryari real name Dashawn Maurice Robertson confirmed the news to XXL this afternoon. “Unfortunately the rumors are true and Mr. Robertson passed away today,” Mehryari wrote in a statement.
The cause of Loaded’s death is unclear.
However, earlier this afternoon, a screenshot of an Instagram Story post the Texas-born artist recently shared began circulating online. It’s unclear when Lil Loaded uploaded the post to his social media, but at the time of the report, it was no longer available on his page.
The long message reads: “Dear Most High, please forgive me for my shortcomings and all the times I have failed to make you proud and appreciate the blessings that have been put in. my life sometimes the lines are blurry between being strong and heartless i want to thank you for how far i have come and the people you have put in my life to keep me down to earth and humble through everything and i love each of these people who are truly for me i ask to enter your kingdom through all my mistakes i know you love all your children and i am ready for my heart and soul to join with you.
the dallas rapper became popular in 2019 with its viral hit “6locc 6a6y”. The accompanying video has garnered more than 28 million views on YouTube so far. His follow-up single, “Gang Unit,” was an even bigger hit with over 39 million views on YouTube and earned rappers props like Polo G and NLE Choppa. In December 2019, Loaded released its first project, 6locc 6a6y.
Sadly, before his death, Lil Loaded faced a major legal hurdle. In March, Loaded was indicted by a grand jury on one count of manslaughter in connection with the death of Khalil Walker. A Dallas County grand jury delivered the indictment saying there was enough evidence to accuse the young rapper of recklessly causing the death of Walker, 18, who was said to have been the friend by Lil Loaded.
Lil Loaded’s lawyer Ashkan Mehryari at the time insisted his client was innocent of the charge. “There is obviously no malice here,” he said.
According to a police affidavit, Lil Loaded shot Walker in the torso with a rifle outside a house in The Woods neighborhood of Dallas on October 25, 2020. The two men and a witness stood by. outside the residence, according to the police.
Walker’s sister, who was inside at the time, said she heard two gunshots and left the house to see Walker on the ground injured from the blow. In an odd twist of the matter, there was allegedly video of Lil Loaded shooting Walker on Walker’s phone, police said.
Walker was rushed to Charlton Methodist Medical Center where he later died of his injuries. lil loaded handed over to the authorities 15 days after the shooting of November 9, 2020. The the rapper “Rocc Dis” has since claimed his innocence.
