Lil wayneThe 20-year-old discography is so extensive, even if he sometimes forgets the bars he wrote.
An excerpt from a recent interview with Fox Sports’ Darnell Smith began circulating the internet last night (April 5), in which Weezy seems blown away by the lyrics he wrote on his “Lollipop (Remix) “released over 10 years ago.
“That last one, I’m pissed off,” Smith tells Wayne just before reading the lyrics to Wayne’s hit record starring Kanye West and the late R&B singer and songwriter Static Major. “This might be my favorite Wayne line of all time, personally. This last one is on fire. Alright, here we go: Safe sex is great / Better to wear latex / Because ‘I think that I’m overdue for texting. ‘ “
A visibly astonished Weezy gasps and stands up from his chair in astonishment. “Oh, damn. Did I say that?” Lil wayne interrogates. “I’m a dog. I don’t know when I said it, or why I said it, or where I said it. I said it, though.”
The New Orleans-raised rapper later confirmed that he didn’t write the lyrics because hey, he didn’t write the lyrics. He apparently came from the top of the dome.
A bona fide hit, “Lollipop (Remix)” dropped in 2008 shortly after the original release without Yeezy’s opening verse. And while the remix of the track produced by Jim Jonsin and Deezle did not appear on the Billboard Hot 100, the initial offering topped the charts for five weeks. AutoTune lace-up song appears on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III album, released on June 10, 2008.
Years later, in 2012, Wayne reportedly settled $ 20million lawsuit with Deezle on the track after the producer claimed he had not been paid for the record. Apparently, Weezy ended the trial first, but in April 2012 the case was settled and dropped.
