More details continue to come around the February 2020 murder by rapper from Brooklyn, NY Pop smoke.

According to new testimony from a detective involved in the case, Pop, born Bashar Jackson, was fatally shot by a 15-year-old who was one of the five people arrested in connection with the rapper’s murder, which occurred following a home invasion, reports New York Daily News.

Friday (May 7), LAPD Det. Carlos Camacho testified at a preliminary hearing for suspect Corey Walker, 20, that the anonymous 15-year-old defendant admitted to pulling the trigger in a taped interview with a cellmate last May in a detention center for minors. “[The teen] admitted to shooting the victim three times with a Baretta 9 [mm.]Camacho said in court.

“They got into a fight and he shot her three times,” Camacho said in the interview. “He said he shot her in the back. He said that when the individuals entered the interior, the suspects confronted [Pop Smoke], who was naked in the shower.

Camacho also said Walker also admitted his role in the murder to an informant who was placed in his cell after his arrest in July 2020. “He said that when the individuals entered inside, the suspects confronted [Pop Smoke], who was naked in the shower, ”Camacho said.

Walker was recorded telling the informant they were wearing ski masks and ordered the rapper to remove his jewelry. Pop reportedly started complying first, to which the intruders said “Thank you.” However, according to Walker, the rapper then hit back. He rushed thieves but was whipped with a pistol before being shot by the 15-year-old. They could only get by with one of Pop’s expensive watches, which they then sold for $ 2,000, investigators said.

During the hearing, Walker’s defense attorney Christopher Darden pleaded for the murder charges against his client to be dropped, saying Walker only drove the car home and was not not directly involved in the theft or murder. Judge H. Clay Jacke II denied Darden’s claim and Walker pleaded not guilty. Walker is due to return to court for a rearrangement on June 3.

The new testimony of det. Camacho aligns with new details revealed during the testimony, Thursday, May 6, of LAPD detective Christian Carrasco. He relayed the statements of a woman who was in an adjacent room of the house at the time of the shooting. The woman claims that the intruders entered the house from a second floor balcony, put a gun to her head and said, “Shut up, do you want to die?”

“She heard a fight coming from the shower and heard Mr. Jackson screaming,” Detective Carrasco said. “Mr. Jackson ran out of the bathroom and heard a thud and [heard] Mr. Jackson fell to the ground. Carrasco also testified that the woman said two of the intruders kicked Pop after being shot.

The people involved in the crime had no connection to the rapper and allegedly saw his address on a social media post when they decided to try and steal it on February 19, 2020 around 4 a.m. had very few prospects in the case. Six months later, Walker, Keandre Rodgers, Jaquan Murphy and two minors whose names are withheld because they were minors at the time were arrested and charged with murder and theft. Walker and Rodgers could be punishable by death or life imprisonment for guilt or murder.
