Looks like we’re gonna have DMXthe posthumous album from before the end of the month.
On Monday May 10, a month after X’s death, rapper Def Jam’s label announced via Twitter that NY MC’s latest album, The Yonkers, Exodus, released on May 28. “The legacy continues. EXODUS 5/28,” the tweet read simply. A photo of the rapper is attached. DMX’s Instagram account also confirmed the news with the same photo and caption.
Swizz Beatz will be the executive producer of the LP. “My brother X was one of the purest and rarest souls I have ever met,” Swizzy said in a statement. “He lived his life devoted to his family and to music. Most of all, he was generous with his donations and loved his fans beyond measure. This album, X was eager for his fans all over the world to hear and show at how much he appreciated everyone who supported him unconditionally.
This will be DMX’s eighth solo studio album. He spent a lot of time last year in Nashville, Tennessee, completing the project before his untimely death. Last summer he revealed it will happen soon. Earlier this year, he revealed details of the offer, his first official release since 2012. Undisputed, during an interview on the Drink Champs Podcast. “I uh, Griselda boys, Pop Smoke,” X said of the next album. “This is the kind of novelty I am doing.”
X found Def Jam, his first major label at home, in 2019 and has been preparing this project ever since. Unfortunately, DMX is dead on April 9, following a weeklong fighter in intensive care after suffering a heart attack on April 2 at his home.
A public memorial was held for the beloved rapper at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on April 24, which was attended by thousands. He was buried the next day after a private ceremony.
