Walmart launches beef with Kanye West Over Yeezy logo

Kanye west inadvertently entered a brand war with Walmart over logo similarities.

Walmart has filed a complaint with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office April 21 after Kanye westThe Yeezy brand submitted a logo that the retail company deemed too similar to theirs. Yeezy LLC applied for a new design on January 3, 2020, which looks like the sun and is made up of eight black three-point rays. The design resembles the Walmart logo, which represents six solid lines with rounded ends that also resemble a sun. Walmart’s logo is also yellow and is referred to by the retail company as “Sparkle Design.”

According to a separate part of the retail giant’s legal file, which was obtained by XXL Wednesday, April 28, alongside its concerns of confusion for shoppers, the retail store worries about a “bogus affiliation” that could “harm and damage” Walmart’s relationship with the other brands it works with.

Walmart did not offer XXL a statement, but the company shared a letter sent to Yeezy brand attorneys Timothy Yoo and Robert Rose on April 19. Rose seems to have registered the logo mark.

The statement reads in part as follows: “As noted in previous correspondence from Walmart, Walmart believes the logo design depicted in the Yeezy app is similar to Walmart’s well-known Sparkle logo design pictured below (” Walmart Spark Design “). Due to concerns from Walmart, Walmart requested an extension of the deadline to oppose the registration of the Yeezy app in hopes that Yeezy and Walmart could come to an agreement on how the Walmart Spark Design and the Yeezy app could coexist without confusing consumers. As we mentioned earlier, with the little information provided in the intention to use the app, it is difficult for Walmart to determine, without more information from Yeezy, how the parties could work together to eliminate the confusion. “

The email continues: “As we mentioned in our correspondence in July and August 2020, January and February 2021 and our conference call in March 2021, Walmart has repeatedly sought to understand Yeezy’s intended use of the Yeezy app, with the aim of finding ways in which the Walmart Spark Design and the Yeezy app can coexist. However, to date, we have not received any conclusive information from Yeezy regarding the intended use or any cooperation of Yeezy in order to find common ground. “

Walmart added that they had received “no substantive feedback, in order for Walmart to retain its rights and protect the Walmart Spark design, Walmart must move forward by filing a notice of objection against Yeezy’s claim.”

After entering into agreements with Gap, Inc. and Adidas, the Clothing and sneaker brand Yeezy reportedly valued at $ 3.2 billion to $ 4.7 billion by UBS Group AG. “ You started Yeezy with Adidas in 2015 after parting ways with Nike in 2013.
